What is a Doula?

"The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after birth or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier, and they breastfeed more easily."

Every person who enters parenthood enters with his or her own individual life experiences, goals, and dreams for the future. The mother's relationship with her baby is begun during pregnancy, nestled in the birthing experience, and nurtured at the breast. Therefore, I believe each mother deserves the opportunity to birth in the manner she desires, whether at home, in a hospital, medicated, or under hypnosis. As The Merry Stork, it is my mission to support, offer encouragement, and empower these amazing women so that they can have a gentle and peaceful birth based on their own needs and desires.
